Refreshingly non-awful #WMATA news: Management plans to resume running trains at the design speeds of tracks--up to 75 mph, versus the current cap of 59 mph--which should make the entire system more efficient. The PDF outlining this and other rail-optimization moves estimates that faster speeds alone will allow Metro to deliver the same service* with two fewer trains in operation and reduce operating costs by $1.9 million a year.
* assuming no budget cuts, I guess
