The last one I really respected was Eminem. He also occasionally wrote lyrics commenting on current trends (like Lamar's dis of Drake in Not Like Us), but I guess I was *aware* of the trends he was commenting on back then. Now I'm too old and don't keep up (I had no idea what Not Like Us was referring to until somebody told me, and even now I'm not 100% sure I understand everything 😉).
