Sigmar Polke. Negative Value II (Mizar), 1982.
When I was a young man living in 300 sq ft in Manhattan, I was once invited to a party in another apartment on the same block, in the luxurious Brevoort, by a very old, very rich man. The elevator doors opened directly into his foyer and on my right I saw an open area with only one large single statue in it. Overwhelmed, I blurted out, "What's that??" And he smiled and said, "It's the most expensive thing in New York City: wasted space."
