a lot of people in the replies to "why is the advice to learn git internals not helpful" are talking about how good abstractions are important (and I agree!)

a thing I struggle with is that it's extremely hard for me to describe what git's core abstractions are even supposed to be. Basic things like "a commit" and "a branch" always end up at "well you can think of it in 3 different ways..." which feels bad
