I was reminded (by a horrific post from a tech startup about intelligence) that when I taught our "Conceptions of Intelligence" seminar in grad school i found examples of early researchers who actually changed their minds and/or admitted the awful failures of what they'd done e.g. some folks who did phrenology as students and are still associated with it actually denounced it with great shame. We often look at the past as unchanging people but in fact it is full of change.
