anecdotal, but I've actually encountered probably a dozen guys who don't want kids for various stupid reasons. Most common I've heard is 'I have a lot of mental illness or health problems in my family that I don't want to pass on' but also just 'i can't afford it' or 'i wouldn't be a good dad'. these are all guys with wives or serious gfs that could have kids if they wanted to, none of them are weird hippies or autists, they're just normal dudes. maybe they will change their mind eventually but starting out in your late 30s is not ideal even for guys.
