The problem I have with looking at what the GOP is doing and saying "Democracy is dead," is that I ask, "When did we have a true representative democracy?"
Certainly not before the 1950s and 1960s.
What has happened since the Civil Rights and women's rights movement is we are trying to achieve something brand new: A representative multi-racial democracy in which all adults have an equal vote.
