Mx. Luna Corbden on Nostr: American GenX grew up with a perpetual sense of being lied to by everyone around us. ...
American GenX grew up with a perpetual sense of being lied to by everyone around us. We grasped at anything that seemed "real." Most of the media we made in our youth reflects this, and can only be truly understood through this lens. If you're younger, try that on while consuming 90s music, movies, books, or TV, see if anything makes more sense. (I'd be curious to know.)
Our favorite word "whatever" actually holds a precious place in that zeitgeist. It was an expression of radical acceptance. Whatever it was, we'd accept it, without fuss, without emotion, even the hint of wry cynicism we could hardly be bothered with. We could sense that we had no control over anything anyway. Whatever. Just glad you told me, dude. Alright catch ya later.
