I think that's certainly a major part of it, but only part. Somewhere in there a certain generation of people came of age, people who had been taught or conditioned to be politically obsessed starting in the Reagan years. They became adults with that mindset and let politics permeate everything, purposely. I think technology allowed them to amplify that mindset.
