Traditionally, looms were large and expensive. For many households they were a business, and how they made fabric for their own clothing.

Due to their considerable value, they were passed down through generations to their rightful heirs. They were heirlooms.

This is my heirloom. It was purchased in the 1950s by a weaver who passed it down to her weaver daughter. When she died the granddaughter (not a weaver) listed it for free on Craigslist, and thereby passed the heirloom to me.
