I'm pretty opinionated about ants. And I've had to start writing my own ant stories since the ones I want don't exist.
But the book that gets the closest to "getting" ants is obscure:
"Busy: The Life Of An Ant" (1919)
by Walter McCaleb
This is a realistic tale of an ant colony on a small farm and explores how one ant sees the world. It's a great book to read to children on summer vacation while staying in a cabin by a lake and getting lost in nature.
