In New Zealand, the centre left and centre right between them command the vast majority of votes (65 percent at the last election). They need to work together more often on matters of national importance, follow the evidence and serve the interests of the electorate rather than their own will to power. The current abrasive hostility between the major parties, exacerbated by ministerial arrogance, does not serve the country well.
