Evil Is Itinerant on Nostr: We're trapped in a prison where everyone thinks there's no way out of it and the best ...
We're trapped in a prison where everyone thinks there's no way out of it and the best thing to do is make nice with the guards so you get an extra ladle of slop at mealtime. Our societies are based on captivity. We are, in essence, the wolves in that flawed "alpha male" study.
The only way out is all together, but prison doesn't encourage unity with others. That's by design, but it's also a happy accident, because our jailers didn't set up the system themselves, so a lot of them don't understand how it works any better than the inmates. And since the inmates do a lot of their own policing, most people don't have to understand.
What the jailers don't understand is that, when the chips are down, they're stuck in the prison with the rest of us. They get to "go home" to their families and their money and so forth, but they can't really leave the prison. That doesn't make it any easier to convince anyone of anything, but if the jail burns down, we're all going to burn with it.
I don't know what the solution is. Direct action and organizing and so forth only get you so far, when they work at all. And to really escape the prison, we'd have to burn it down, and a lot of people will die, people who don't deserve to die. There's too much at stake for most people to stick their neck out, and what we need is a whole bunch of people sticking their necks out, a number which is unfeasible so long as people have too much to lose. And to get to a place where that's not true, a lot of people will suffer and die.
But one thing's for certain: no one is coming to save us.
