I wake up at 8 am. It's not really 8 am of course; the sun has been blotted out to stop global warming. But the pod's Sun System™ works just as well and is environmentally friendly!
Drink spout 1 pours out two ounces of Vitacoffee™, it's not real coffee but it tastes just as good and has a small amount of amphetamines for that early morning boost. Drink spout 2 pours out my breakfast Drink™, it used to be called Soylent™ but they were acquired by the one world government and renamed recently.
I get in my pods Vertical Shower System™ and use my 5 allotted minutes of daily warm water, washing my body and scalp. You're not allowed to have long hair because it requires too much water to wash, but that's okay. Then I lay down in the Muscle Stimulation Chamber™ for 30 minutes. It sends small electrical signals to my muscles to make sure they don't decay, since the pod is too small for exercise.
I sit down at my desk and get ready for work. My job is to make spreadsheets. Every day I get given 5000 randomly generated numbers and I need to make a spreadsheet sorting them from lowest to highest. I'm not sure what my spreadsheets are used for, but the voice over the intercom assures me my work is very important.
I take my lunch break and take my Stabiliser Pill™ and wash it down with my noon Drink™, I am thankful for my pill, it keeps me stable and happy. One time I didn't take my pill for a few days and men in strange masks came into my pod and injected my shoulder with a needle. It was the only time I've ever seen other humans. I'll never skip my Stabiliser Pill™ again.
Now it's my allotted entertainment time for the day, I can do whatever I want. There's this show I heard about on Poddit™ called Seinfeld™ and I decide to watch it.
I start the first episode and see the familiar Disney™ logo, and then I see the cars. The buildings. The open space. Is the world outside my pod really like that? It looks so free, you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want.
Then the people. Their beige skin and the hair on their head and face. Is that what I look like? Am I one of those? I feel a strange stirring in my throat and reach out and touch the screen *BEEP.* I get a warning. I reach out again, but stop just before touching. What's the deal with this stirring inside of me? Why do I long so deeply.
The episode ends, and I sit there for a while with a lump in my throat and an ache in my chest. I am thankful for my Stabiliser Pill™, I would be weeping without it. I go to bed early that night and take a melatonin supplement to force myself to sleep.
That night I have a dream. In it I wake up and my pod door is open, and I leave and find myself in a great green field of grass. I wander for a while, then find another pod and open the door, hoping to finally see another human. Instead there's three strange masked men inside the pod, all holding needles. They hold me down and inject me, and then I wake up.
