You just need to download the Bitcoin software at www.bitcoincore.org. It’s a large file almost 1TB. Once you download it the Bitcoin ghosts will pretty much come alive and start verifying transactions for everyone on the network all on their own. That’s all there is to node running.

If you don’t have at least 1TB of memory available, then you won’t be able to run a full node (meaning the entire Bitcoin Blockchain), but you can still run a pruned node which only stores the most recent 300GB worth of Bitcoin transactions.

The part where it gets interesting is that people don’t want to leave their laptops or some energy-intensive desktop computer running 24/7 so they opt to buy a miniature single-board computer like a Raspberry Pi or something similar. Lots of choices here. These you can leave running 24/7 with minimal power usage. There are some great operating systems designed for this like Umbrel or any of the other hundreds of free Linux distributions that offer their own App Store with a bunch of cool applications that you can interact with from your mobile device.

People like to refer to these little single board computers as nodes.
