Flatpak is designed to do exactly that, to be a easy platform that works in all distros.

Because not everyone is a Linux eliteist like you, but I think normal people still should be able to use the system in a friendly way, not to mention that maintainers themselves are sick of needing to support 20 different package managers, because for some reason, every distro thinks they need to reinvent the wheel.

systemd replaced initd, you could argue that before systemd there was a bit more variety, but initd was definitely more common. Just as systemd is today. There are alternatives to systemd, but most distros themselves make the decision to use don't use them.

Wayland has absolut nothing to do in this context. Sry, but that is such a bs that I really questioning about what you are talking about.
Before, nearly everything was x11, wayland is just the successor of it.
Wayland can't "make all distros in a grey goo" because there never was any real variety to begin with.

But you know what makes Fedora different from Arch?
Absolutely nothing prevents you from setup up your Arch system without Flatpak, with upstart instead of systemd and with a nearly unmaintained x11. It feels like a "just for the sake of it" thing, but if it makes you happy, you can do that.
