Flood of Tears was a 2001 freeware Japanese visual novel that was officially translated into English in 2006 by Insani (it remains freely available and can be run without difficulty on Windows and Linux). It clearly drew some inspiration from Kanon, but it has its own charm. I very much enjoyed one of the two routes while the other was solid, but less than the first. Its endings leave many unanswered questions, but it still comes with my recommendation.
