A whinge about cyclists.
I have no issue with cyclists, as a car driver (I did used to have something of an issue as a horse rider, because apparently bells are no longer a thing, but there you go). I don’t get up their arses when they slow me down, I wait until it’s safe to pass them and give them a full car’s width when I do. I’ve even been known to tell off other drivers when they complain about cyclists riding two abreast to stop drivers from overtaking, because the cyclists are doing that to stop you from overtaking unsafely, you numpty.
Yesterday, I came up behind a well-strung-out gaggle of cyclists. No road markings, but the road was wide enough that I’d just slow down slightly for another car, narrow enough I’d pull over for a tractor, and long and straight with plenty of visibility.
I slowed down, the first little group moved to the left, I overtook and gave them a way as I pulled back in. Repeat, repeat, repeat, until I got to the three people at the front, one of whom was on the right of the road.
His companions pulled to the left. They told him there was a car. They told him to stop being an idiot. He resolutely stuck to the right.
Sigh.
After a couple of miles of this, he finally, after much nagging, pulled over to the left, waited until I’d moved to the right and started to accelerate, and then swung back in front of me.
Now, I get it, some drivers are arseholes to cyclists, but on what fucking planet is doing stuff like that going to make any of them stop being? He was far more likely to have pushed me off enough to make me turn into an arsehole.
Idiot.
