The one silver lining I see to #ChatControl and the #OnlineSafetyAct is that it gives a golden opportunity to try and persuade friends who don't care about free software / federation to migrate to #XMPP en masse.
If everyone is presented with a pop-up box saying "agree to have your chats scanned, or else", that suddenly gives a much more tangible way XMPP is better *for them* (instead of just being better for me).
