Could your MCs manage keeping plants alive?
I have another MC who'd be much better at it, but Jade might do okay. She learned botany, plant identification, & mageric collection techniques as part of her studies with Master Z, & worked as a specimen procurer during the time she had to live anonymously. She never learned to grow them but could give it a good try. Her main problem might be having the time to care for them day-to-day.
