because civics requires us to not hate/distrust each other. to think as rationally about public affairs as we do our daily lives, not constantly fear the infowar for our minds. skepticism, not cynicism.
talking crap is fine when it doesn't make democracy harder. just like conspiracies about a flat earth are less of a problem than making people think Trump is a Putin puppet. pushing people to be tribal re sports is not the problem that a public made tribal re politics is.
