I posit that the "old internet" people are talking about didn't really go that far away. I say it's mostly a combination of giant social media sites & Google becoming less effective that have kept people from seeing the goodness that still lies underneath. Yes, many smaller sites are gone for various reasons, but I think some of that can be attributed to hey, people move on & tastes & trends change. But lately I've found some old sites that are still up & running, & people are still using them.
