I'm paying more attention to home renovation info recently (because I know I'll be helping my parents with theirs soon), and I'm blown away that a cooktop costs $5500 and that the manufacturer proudly states in their FAQs that it's "designed and tested to last the typical lifecycle of standard appliances, which is around 10 years". Is it truly "typical" for people to pay $550/year to own a cooktop? Or is this what planned obsolescence looks like??
