thinking about the relationship between android and linux. i know that android is technically built on linux. my interaction with android as a developer (5-10 years ago) was that android dictates the model of applications and access to data; android provides that programs the user installs and runs take the form of "apps" which are packaged, mostly java source code, come from the app store, are made of "activities", launched via "intents" and all this stuff
