npub1aka6wf78hfaqpz060r246dq80lmtjx6uf7wapct4ljluyfx956hszmzzz2 (npub1aka…zzz2) I caught a glimpse of myself in a store mirror some years back, and I didn't like how I looked anymore. I wanted to be casual, comfortable, but not sloppy, and I felt I wasn't meeting that bar.
I went with v-neck, heavy black t-shirts layered under some kind of sweater or no-logo hoodie. I gulped at the price at the time (I remember $13 for a Hanes 3pk, which these were decidedly not), but they've lasted for years with heavy rotation, so the math worked. I also standardized on a brand of khaki pants that look dressier than jeans but are honestly more comfortable than lounge pants. I kept only the conference shirts that I wouldn't want to be without, but they're in the bottom drawer now and seldom get worn. It's part of my transition to "the invisible man" in the sense that I'd rather my attire not call attention to itself.
