When #Verizon says they offer Wi-Fi Calling, they literally mean Wi-Fi. With airplane mode on and Wifi disabled while connected to Ethernet via USB my iPhone refuses to make or take calls. When I enable wireless again, it'll connect to the Verizon VoIP over that interface. There's no good reason for this, as the Ethernet device is even recognized in settings and assigned a device ID of en3.
