Personally, I don't really think that something inbetween would get any mass adoption.
So you probably want a language with a GC and a strong and strict type system enforced by a real compiler (not a just-in-time compiler).
Such a language would be similar to Go, but with major fixes like adding algebraic data types that replace nil and improve error handling.
