Yes, although I do them a little differently. I usually have my character wake up, and then they review the nightmare while trying to calm their nerves in bed. I rarely write *in* a dream, if that makes sense.
When done well, I think they can be a useful tool for showing a character's mental state. They can also hint at an element in their backstory, which is fun.
But they should be used intentionally
