Something I keep hearing is, "Well, this time things will be so bad, all the idiots who voted for trump will finally see how awful he is when he screws everything up," and I cannot help but think that's one of the dumbest, most naive things I've ever heard.

After WWII, there were many, MANY Germans refused to believe that Hitler did anything wrong, even after everything the Nazis did was laid bare for the world to see.

I know this for a fact, because my grandfather was one of them.
