Look at me. I don't follow the GM protocol and I've been on nostr for over a year, with about 10,000 posts and replies, still only about 300 followers. I've made memes that get 1 or 2 likes, done pretty good music edits that get 1 or 2 likes, etc.
You've gotta really be ready for the consequences if you want to be like me, saying gfy to people for a simple gm
