I like Lady and the Tramp far better than 101 Dalmatians for sure as far as dog cartoons go.
As for the moral of the story, I thought that it was that the stray or mutt is a good as a dog that the pure-bred is (even with all his faults, Tramp saving the baby) and that the pure-bred can get into equal amount of trouble as the pure-bred (lady running away/muzzle etc.) even if they both were misunderstood.
Lady and the Tramp 2 really sucks though so avoid that one!! 😉
