Unpopular view: the term ‘neutral site’ is just fine. It’s a useful shorthand for ‘genome positions at which changes are neutral with respect to fitness’.
After all, sites based on other features can be fractional, say, 2/3 nonsynonymous. Why not neutrals? #evolution
