My mother had a risk attitude survey from our financial planner.
Question 1:
“It says ‘If you made and investment of £100,000, how much would you be prepared to lose before you withdrew the money?’, and then the options are £5000, £10,000….”
“There’s no right answer, you just have to say which you’d be happy with.”
“Well I don’t know. Your father always did this sort of thing.”
“You’re probably towards the low end…”
“So should I tick the first box?”
“I can’t answer for you. It’s your money.”
“Well, it will be yours eventually so tell me which one to tick.”
Question 2:
“‘What percentage would your investments have to fall by for you to withdraw the money?’ Why, that’s the same question just rephrased!”
“Yes, they do that to make sure you mean your answer.”
“So, which one should I tick?”
….
Thankfully, there were only ten questions.
