After a long few days of troubleshooting, I’ve come to the conclusion it’s not possible to DIY x86 start9 on my MacBook. Read below (if you’re curious) the issue I found to be the exact situation I ended up in with no feasible solution other than just purchasing the start9 server itself.

Upsetting as it is, I may choose to look into other FOSS alternatives before making any purchases. Sorry to let y’all down, but I won’t give up.
