I have struggled with this idea. There seems to be a narrative that supports unkind smart people who are hyper productive. I can understand why people excuse or even endorse the idea. I just have this strong conviction that nature keeps score and that the emotional pain being dished out for the sake of productivity will end up hurting us somehow. It's just a feeling I have.
