Researchers at the University of Purdue and the University of Pennsylvania surveyed cat and dog owners to determine how many animals engage in fetching and what characteristics make them more likely to do so. The study found that cats are more likely to fetch if they are younger, healthier, and in households without other dogs. Certain breeds, such as Abyssinians, Bengals, Siamese, and Siberians, are also more likely to fetch. The researchers believe that fetching is a form of play that allows cats to engage with their owners and that it may be linked to their sociability.
