Basically no way around it these days if you ever want a GUI application, or web obviously.

I would suggest just learning languages. I'm not perfect and I've settled on the ones I like the most and are the most productive at, and some you can't avoid so just build brother.

I hate Javascript, in a totally serious way, I think it's type of cancer. However (besides AI) its the most versatile now, and I usually suggest new developers that have an interest in building applications for people to learn it. It's somewhere to start, however I think the transition into big-boy languages can be more difficult. Many learn how the tool works and assume how the tool works is how the rest of the world works not understanding, for example, that to a CPU, booleans aren't real; true/false is high level paradigm.

The issue I had a few years ago with non-native languages, is that newbies don't have to understand how a system works, and it really trips them up when they want to step outside the sandbox, too much abstraction. Not realizing that to open a file there is such a thing as a system call open() or read(), and just for your high level language to do that, it needs 10s of mb of C or other system specific libraries just to give you that open() or read() system call.
