we have just ordered heating oil for the first time in three years. the last two winters have been rough; we could only use the heating for an hour or so every day or even every other day because we didn't know how long the oil would last and couldn't afford any more.
we debated *a lot* about whether or not to order any now, but we won't last the winter on what we have left even with hard rationing, and another winter of freezing would be Very Bad health wise. so. thankfully we can pay in installments.
but husband has just put the heating on for the first time in a couple of days (because we know we're getting oil soon and won't run out), and my god the feeling of relief. we can be warm, it's ok, we don't have to be cold.
but there is a harsh dichotomy between that relief and the mega anxiety/fear of having spent the money. and no one should have to live like that. in this world, no one should be cold, or hungry, or struggle for access to healthcare or shelter. and we are so very far from that right now.
things have to change.
