I just learned that you can record video in 4:3 on the iPhone using the QuickTake feature. The resulting video is 1920x1440 at 30fps.
Although it gives you a lower resolution video, QuickTake actually gives you more content in the frame. You see, the iPhone’s sensor is 4:3, but is cropped to 16:9 when the Camera app is switched to video mode. That’s not the case with QuickTake.
