First in-person votes for the US presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were cast in Virginia on 20 October 2024, six weeks before election day on 5 November. Virginia is the first state to allow in-person voting, with polling sites open until 2 November. In Minnesota and South Dakota, voters can only submit absentee ballots in person. 69% of votes in the 2020 election were cast early or by mail. Virginia voters will also elect eleven congressional members and one senator. Polling shows a tight race with Harris slightly leading nationally. 41 states will have ballot initiatives on 5 November, including abortion access and recreational marijuana legalization.
