if i had to guess (and i don't, but i'm going to) it's financial. i bet they were doing fucky stuff with the books to hide how expensive it is to run these LLMs. i bet they're broke and they hid that until they couldn't anymore. that would be a classic "over-promise and then hope you can deliver" ambitious startup move.
