There is a precedent for allowing political hyperbole but this guy was neither talking about a public figure, nor giving a political speech, also it was directed at a specific private citizen in person. He was also not calling upon others to do it he was directly threatening to kill her using the fear of violence to limit her free expression.
So the first amendment would likely not apply on the basis of it being a true threat.
