i very much like having a single connection for power and data. it's convenient. i use laptops on docks with external displays a lot.
the other huge benefit of USB-C is not having to buy (and more importantly keep track of) a bunch of different chargers and remember what they go to or read the input voltage and current from teeny tiny letters on the bottom of a laptop and charger. it's just THE charger and it works for everything.
plus you can go straight DC to DC and run it off a car's 12V power
