I won the war against the federation with the help of my belligerent vassals who kept declaring war on everybody constantly. This gave me a constant source of food and kept the enemy empires suppressed while I built a massive fleet and defended my borders.Since I was harassing everyone and nobody was harassing me I won by default when the two awakened empires started fighting each other.
At the end of the game the map looks chaotic but I basically control everything except the green and my allies and splinter hives are in the bottom and bottom left. The one teal on the right side of the galactic core is another splinter hive I broke off to act as a buffer zone.
The Jusstkan Interstellar Empire to my south was awesome. I had an early war and subjugated them, making them pay me all their income. They were miserable but eventually reworked their economy and expanded all over the south of the map. They just produced endless resources and never needed to defend themselves from a single attack. There was only one way into their space and I always kept it guarded.
There was an empire to my west called the Mact-Pux Empire full of arboreal lizard people. They rammed their territory right up against mine and contested some worlds early in the game so I abducted some of them as a food source and later subjugated them and defended them from their enemies. They fell apart due to constant rebellion and infighting so I gave their territory to splinter hives and they eventually wiped the mact-pux out.
