I deeply love the Mountain Goats but feel like this new album ain’t it. Maybe “a complicated mythology across multiple albums isn’t necessary” is an ironic criticism to lob at this band specifically, but Jenny is a perfect gem of a song capturing a single moment and that’s all it probably needs to be.
