I've been trying to figure out how to live with a PDA-type (non-cellular) device and a mifi (the The Calyx Institute (npub1606…yxcd) sells private MiFi memberships, both 4G and 5G for a reasonable price)
I just can't find any viable solution for getting an internet-based phone number WITH SMS support. All of the generic SIP plans are prohibitively expensive per SMS message, and the only affordable things are Google Voice (ICK!) and Line2 (still tied to Android).
