I think when everything costs sats it puts a serious damper on general engagement & destroys the growth needed to establish a serious network effect & continue attracting new users.
One of the first questions newbs ask is "do I have to have bitcoin to try nostr?" If the answer was yes, then that would be enough of a hurdle to keep them away. As things are, they try Nostr & then usually want to get some Bitcoin as a next step.
But I found myself commenting much less often in Sphinx when groups were setup so that commenting cost even a single sat. It might make sense to discourage mindless posting in some sort of otherwise super busy group feed, but I think boosts, zaps, likes, follows, & muting do a good enough job of regulating the flow of posts on an open platform.
It might not be a bad idea to have an option for 5% of all zaps to go to devs of whatever app you're using, or for some amount to go to certain nodes under certain conditions.
