One thing that many people forget to take into account is that many electronic devices can be tracked remotely. If you are in a situation where you need to remain hidden and you come across a potentially beneficial electronic device, then you must make a choice:
1) Risk being tracked
2) Pass up an opportunity
One way to mitigate this concern is with electromagnetic signal blocking containers (faraday boxes/bags). If you are out on patrol, scavenging, relocating, going to a secret meeting, etc. you should consider carrying these bags. You would need one for any device that you already have, AND a separate bag for any incidental finds along the way. This would prevent accidental signal from your own device when opening to place a found device inside and it would protect against attacks on your personal device if that found device turns out to be malicious.
Remember that the capabilities of your opponent in these kind of situations could very well be far superior to your own. Take every precaution to assure your secrecy and operational security.
