a bizarre element of developing countries that's hard to explain is that the elite class of these countries have more money than god but they lack attention from western elites so this becomes a form of currency among them. This leads to absolutely deranged behavior. when i try to explain this to people of my own culture they think im infantilizing the global south, when people from such countries hear me explain this they facepalm and go "oh god its so true"
