Obama won in '08 because of the global financial crisis. Biden won in '20 because of the pandemic. Clinton won mostly because Perot acted as a third-party spoiler for Bush in '92 and Dole in '96.
Apparently this wasn't enough of a crisis, but not to worry: They'll get the crisis they crave.
